Introductions are in order. Hi, I'm Sondra Householder. I grew up outside of a little bitty town in northern Iowa. I have a wonderful family where everyone gets along and enjoys each other's company...pretty rare by itself, even more so because there are so many of us. Just ask any of the spouses, holiday gatherings are loud and overwhelming, constant laughter. I am a creation of this fantastic environment.
I must admit, my life has been pretty charmed. Every once in a while, I pretend I can create dark, moody pieces of art...honestly, dark and moody are not cards I have been dealt. Now, whimsy, humor, and happy I have loads of. I also have a life long love for God's creatures. Out here on three acres south of Des Moines, my lovely wife, daughter, and I share our lives with a dog, two goats, three cats, six ducks, 21 chickens, and a tank of beady eyed, carnivorous fish (they stare at me hungrily while I eat my breakfast..it's unnerving).
I have dreamed of creating art all my life. Over the decades, I dabbled in all sorts of mediums and subject matter, but there are a few that I return to time and again. The good Lord gave me an intense love for the horse and The Breyer Molding Company offered figurines to collect and transform. If you explore my small corner of the internet, you can sometimes find bits of my collection up for adoption and a page for my horse creations.
Chickens are fascinating. Each of my birds has her own personality, There is bossy Mrs. Brown and talkative Henny Penny. Flow is just a touch dopy and Janice has more than her share of sass. My goal is to infuse the personality into my paintings.
I think my loudest artistic voice is sung with a camera. My brain sees puns everywhere, all the time...normally i giggle and go on about my day never to think of it again, but every once in a while an image to go with the pun gets stuck in my head and demands fulfillment. Recently, some small characters allowed themselves to be photographed and the Day Glo Collection was born.
Ok, I gotta go do some other stuff for awhile (I get a bit bored talking about myself) but I am gonna publish this here and come back to it later. I'll try to continue the saga soon so as to not leave you hanging . Thanks for visiting my site and enjoying my work. --Sondra
